Nearly there!

Now, another few hours and we'll have our well-deserved Easter break! I'll be off all of next week and to be honest, I cannot wait! It's time to catch up on some sleep and enjoy life a little. Dee is working hard preparing for her Law exams in May, so I might be able to give her a hand with things.

As it's Good Friday tomorrow, I better make sure we drop by the off-license. I still don't get it; The Irish seem to drink quite a bit compared to the rest of Europe, but still they close all pubs on Good Friday, making us all rush to the off-license to get a few bevvies to celebrate the Easter Holidays.

Slainte!

Amsterdam vs Carrigaloe

As I stayed out a bit longer than originally intended last night, I had to leave my much-appreciated bicycle at Carrigaloe train station overnight. While passing it by this morning on the way to the office, she had not deserted me in any shape or form.

Thank God, she didn't look like this one

Best of luck!

As it is Ales' last day with the company before returning to native Slovenia, we're going for a quick bite after work in Luigi Malone's. I'm looking forward to that now. It's been a while since I've been there last, and as we still don't have a cooker in the apartment, any warm meal will do.

It's absolutely lashing!

Remember the Bank of Ireland advertisement for car loans... 'it's lashing, come on, take the lift. I am not a yes-man'. That's how I feel today. There's some serious rain pooring out of the Munster skies. Then, we haven't had any in four weeks really, so I shouldn't complain! There might be flooding tonight! If I see anybody kayaking on South Terrace, I'll let ye know. We used to be save enough up on the elevated hills of Montenotte, will Pembroke Wood survive?

Champagne and justice!

After spending St. Patrick's Day at the office, I was longing for that well deserved pint. As 'staying in, is the new going out', we had a lovely night at our place. Leo & Linda were already there when I arrived from work, and later on our neighbour Grace showed up with a bottle of wine. A couple of hours and a few bottles later we all went to bed for another early start this morning.

Interestingly enough, Grace told us that the builders are going to change the mechnical extraction system in her kitchen too! So, it looks like the County Council has forced the builders to install this extractor in every apartment (75+ units!) in the estate. Costs: a lot of money!

It looks like their ignorance is gonna cost 'm...

Sweet justice!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Just wanted to wish you all a very happy St. Patrick's Day!

Slowly but surely

It's all coming together again. The small bedroom is being transformed to a fully equipped office and library. Irish Law books from floor to the ceiling, computer cables all around! Now that we got a futon on loan from a friend, we don't really need our spare double matras anymore. In case ye want it, please let me know. If else, I'll be cutting it up next week and bring it to the dump.

We're meeting George & Val tonight for a bite to eat, so I was delighted getting the lift in this morning. The weather last night was fairly poor alright, so nah didn't want to get soaked again.

And all you can receive is the BBC!

Amazing! As the television reception is so poor in Pembroke Wood, we had to get ourselves one of those signal boosters; Now, I'm glad to have a picture at all, but all I can receive is BBC Northern Ireland! We can't get anyof the Irish channels; we can only get the BBC! WOW!

And as I got an email from Eircom this morning mentioning that the exchanges in Dunmanway, Ballydehob, Watergrasshill, Rosscarberry, Killeagh, Durrus and Riverstick are on the list for the roll out of DSL, before Passage West; it will be another while before I'll take a landline and therefore be able to get a Sky dish up.

At least Spring's coming and ye shouldn't be inside watching Corrie and footy anyway! HEH!

Carpet is down!

Yes! The carpet is down, so no more dust and concrete floors! I couldn't be bothered to move anything into the spare bedroom last night, but hopefully I can get out of the office in time tonight to do so.

And if not, then I'll do it just during the week. Bit by bit. Will be working over St. Patrick's Day, but surely I'll find an hour here or there to move all the stuff back into the small bedroom.

Allez les bluex!!

Well, no Grand Slam victory for Ireland, but at least we got our carpet! It was perfect; the shops were deserted with everybody stuck to their tellyboxes watching the boys in green. Did some shopping around and saved ourselves 200 EUR; Just a bit of advice: don't go the new carpet place there at Mahonpoint next to B&Q; absolute rip off!.

What else? Oh yeah, Dee's parents came up on Sunday to help us with some last bits 'n pieces. I'll bring the digicam tonight and see if I can get some new shots up tomorrow.

Be good!

Another week gone

Time flies; it's unbelievable how quickly these weeks go. I started my cycling again this week as the train schedule isn't very favourable while trying to head home after work. Couldn't be bothered this morning though; we we're at a friends' house until late last night babysitting, so nah, too tired to cycle all the way; Just parked the bike at the station and enjoyed the ride! 2 EUR 65 daily return. Not too bad at all.

Might have a look over the weekend for carpet for the spare room; the dust and mess are getting annoying now. And of course, the Ireland vs France rugby is on, so we better see that!

Have a good one!

The ups and downs of everyday life

Like so many things in life, you just never know what comes around the corner. Good times, bad times, they succeed each other with unbelievable pace. There is no time trying to understand why things go as they go. Just keep going. Never give up, never surrender.

A beautiful day!

While 'die heimat' is still covered in inches of snow, the Kingdom surely isn't. After doing a huge amount of laundry I went for a walk to the Healy Pass.

Tranquillity, just what we needed after another week of madness at the office.

And you'll always meet other lone travellers

Who's the boss?

I think that's pretty obvious. 1-0 to the cats!

45% less accidents with new seat belt design

With thanks to Emma for forwarding this one.

Thank God it's Friday!

Another couple of hours at the office and then it's time to switch off the mobile phones and the alarms. A crazy week it's been; 3 nights at the office until 20.00; not too funny, but it had to be done; It's kinda spooky though taking that cross river ferry at night time; hardly anybody on the ship and going at a rapid pace alright.

At home we met our neighbour Carmel and we had a good old bitchin' session on the builders and contractors and the low signal strength of television and mobile telephony. She bought a signal booster at Sound Store, so we better go there soon. As Sky requires a landline to be active, it would be a 400EUR bill alltogether just to get the service installed. Then we might as well take a 50EUR booster for now, and see what the future brings.

Speaking about DVDs

I'm looking for the full box set of 'Father Ted'. I've just seen it on Amazon for 40 Sterling. Anybody seen it cheaper somewhere else?

Thank you George Foreman Grill!

Not having had a chance yet to purchase a cooker, get it delivered ('weekdays only, sorry'), or even considering whether or not to install it ourselves, our nightly dinner generally consists of salad and something grilled on the George Foreman grill.
If you can recommend any healthy recipies, please let us know and we might even invite ye for dinner ;-)

Two episodes of Sex and The City later on the DVD player and the pile of ironing out of the way it was time to catch some sleep.

Out and about

While native The Netherlands is covered in 30 cm of snow, we're just cold; it's +3 degrees Celcius :-) I'm out and about testing our products, so no updates from me today. Dee's new job is going great, working hard, but enjoying it. Not much else happening really. Tried to use the old clothes hanger trick as an antenna for the television but no joy, so gotta get that Sky dish in sometime soon.

An enjoyable Sunday afternoon

Ireland were playing England, and after the half-time whistle blew, Ireland found themselves ahead 50-0, Brian O Driscoll getting eight tries. The rest of the team decided to head for the pub instead of playing the second half, leaving Brian to go out on his own. No worries," Brian told them, "I'll join you later and tell you what happened." After the game Brian headed for the pub where he told his teammates the final score: 95-3. "What!!!!" said a furious Eddie O Sullivan, "How did you let them get three points??!" Brian replied apologetically, "I was sent off with 20 minutes to go.
