No more seat 3F - unless I pay for it!

Aer Lingus to charge passengers for pre-booking seats
03/04/2007 - 07:11:39

Aer Lingus is reportedly set to charge passengers for pre-booking seats on short haul flights.

Reports this morning say the recently privatised airline is planning to charge between €3 and €15 for pre-booked seats, depending on where the passenger wants to sit.

Customers who do not want to pre-book can choose a seat from what remains when they check-in, at no extra cost.

The new charges come on top of last month's increases in baggage fees and are due to come into force on May 23rd.

Aer Lingus claims they are a response to demand from business passengers to make the process of boarding and disembarking quicker and more efficient.

However, consumer groups are already criticising the move as a money-making exercise.
